Warriors Owner Joe Lacob Says Kevin Durant Should Have Stayed With Golden State

This was a big season for the Golden State Warriors and owner Joe Lacob. Not only were they ready to debut playing in the Chase Center, but it's also the first year without Kevin Durant since 2016.

But this isn't the same Golden State team that Durant joined that summer. Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson are sidelined with significant injuries and the Dubs are one of the worst teams in the NBA. So when Lacob recently opened up about the mixed emotions that came with this season, of course he went against Durant's decision to leave the team this past summer.

“I was sad to see him go because I think if he’d have stayed — which I think he should have — we would have, maybe not this year but for the next five years, one of the best players in basketball. So that was sad," Lacob said.

It's almost as if Lacob and Golden State would have never been in this position if their staff hadn't mismanaged Durant's return from injury in the Warriors' NBA Finals loss to Kawhi Leonard and the Toronto Raptors. Maybe Durant would never have suffered an Achilles tear on a bad right leg and he would have re-signed with Golden State...

Or maybe Durant was always looking to leave last summer. After all, it was Lacob that wanted an extension more than Durant himself.

We'll see if the Nets can win a title during Durant's tenure in Brooklyn. If they do, KD will be laughing at Lacob saying he should have stayed with the Warriors.
