3 Free Agents the Eagles Need to Target This Offseason

The Philadelphia Eagles are now officially two years removed from their Super Bowl LII victory, and the organization can't bask in the glow of that moment for a single second longer. Its time to pull out the check book and start bringing some talent to the City of Brotherly Love in order to compete for NFC supremacy once again, and that begins with these three manageable free agent signings in the current offseason.

1. DE Yannick Ngakoue

The Eagles ranked 13th in sacks in 2019. That's not bad, but also not nearly good enough to reach a Super Bowl. If the team wants to upgrade on the edge, the Jadeveon Clowneys of the world likely present a bridge too far, but a player like Yannick Ngakoue is an attractive option. He is a young and proven sack artist, and while he'll demand a high price in free agency, the Eagles have to consider paying it given the major upside.

2. WR Robby Anderson

Aging stars like DeSean Jackson and Alshon Jeffery permitted Carson Wentz to pass for 239 yards per game in 2019, but an injection of youth and talent at the wide receiver position will help the QB far more at this point. Robby Anderson was a capable player in four seasons with the Jets despite a lack of overall talent around him on a perennially dysfunctional offense. A player with ideal size and speed, Anderson would have a chance to reach his full potential playing in Doug Pederson's offense in Philly.

3. FS Jimmie Ward

Malcom Jenkins has said he has no interest in returning on his current contract, and the veteran safety isn't getting any younger regardless. The signing of Jimme Ward, meanwhile, could constitute a home run for Howie Roseman and the Eagles front office. They will have to compete with a number of teams for Ward's services, and that's only if the 49ers don't extend him first. If they have a chance at the defensive back, however, then making a move should be considered a high priority.
