It took some 48 hours, but the New York Yankees have identified their first candidate to fill their pitching coach vacancy. Of course, the club announced on Monday that they will be parting ways with Larry Rothschild after almost a decade together.

ESPN's Jeff Passan reported on Wednesday morning that the Yanks have interviewed University of Michigan pitching coach Chris Fetter, an individual many pundits within the baseball industry believe to be an emerging hot commodity.

Fetter, though he's been in the Wolverines dugout for the last two seasons, is no stranger to consulting big league arms. The 33-year-old has spent time as a scout with the Angels, coaching in the Padres organization, and he even worked in the Dodgers minor league ranks as a pitching coordinator.

As Passan notes, Fetter has previously received interest as a pitching coach from other major league teams, including the crosstown Mets.

Another name that has been linked to the vacancy is former Yankee great and current YES Network TV analyst David Cone, though it's not yet clear if New York has approached him about the position.

In the meantime, stay tuned for further updates on the Yankees interview process, as discussions are likely to heat up after the news concerning Fetter.
