The New York Yankees opted to part ways with longtime pitching coach Larry Rothschild on Monday, surprisingly ending a marriage that lasted nearly a decade.

It's largely expected that Rothschild is headed for a reunion with former Pinstripes skipper Joe Girardi in the City of Brotherly Love, and he leaves a massive hole in his wake that the Yanks will need to fill in due time.

Well, former star hurler David Cone, who currently works for the YES Network as a Yankees TV analyst, has shown interest in the vacancy.

NJ Advance Media reported on Tuesday that the former Cy Young winner would listen if the franchise were to approach him to discuss the opening.

Cone, of course, has significant ties with the Yankees organization that could work in his favor during the interview process. The 56-year-old spent six years in the Bronx and was part of the squad that won four champions in the late 1990s and 2000. He even threw a perfect game at the old Yankee Stadium in 1999.

He's certainly a fan favorite in the Bronx, and it's apparent that a profusion of buffs would welcome him back into the home dugout in a heartbeat.

Of course, however, this report is in its inception stage, and it remains to be seen if the Bombers will actually consider Cone for the position. But for now, his enthusiasm cannot be considered in doubt.
