Notre Dame Near-Loss to VaTech is Latest Proof They Must Try to Ditch Brian Kelly for Urban Meyer
By Jerry Trotta

Remember in the preseason when Notre Dame was considered a legitimate contender to make the College Football Playoff?
Well, that pipe dream has slowly faded with losses to the likes of Michigan, which was a 31-point embarrassment, and Georgia. That's not even to mention that they barely squeaked by a USC team currently in a tailspin.
Desperate to impress the country on Saturday, the Fighting Irish have underwhelmed significantly against an inferior Virginia Tech side. Even though they managed to muster a comeback against the Hokies, their laughable efforts AT HOME proves that they need to sack Brian Kelly in favor of Urban Meyer, who might be looking to get back into coaching after a 12 month hiatus.

If Kelly was the right man for the job, his team wouldn't, time and time again, fall short of expectations. Good coaches get their teams up to pummel lesser opponents, not play down to their competition.
Notre Dame has lost EVERY single big game on their schedule in 2019, and their only impressive win has come against a then 4-1 Virginia Cavaliers squad. A single dub against Michigan or Georgia would have done wonders in the eyes of the committee.
But, as is their forte during Kelly's tenure, the Fighting Irish faltered on the big stage.
Is today the day Urban Meyer becomes the Notre Dame Coach?

Maybe not today Big Cat, but Notre Dame absolutely needs to ponder the future of Kelly after today's joke of a performance.
Say what you will about Meyer's moral compass, but he's one of the greatest coaches in the history of college football. The Kelly Era was fun while it lasted, but it needs to come to an end if the Fighting Irish want to make that elusive next step.
