Mets' JD Davis Has Pretty Weak Excuse for Being Swept by Braves This Weekend

The New York Mets are cooling off after sprinting out of the gates in the second half of the season. After being swept by the NL East-leading Atlanta Braves, the Mets sounded like the old version of the team, a group that allowed excuses, complaints, fights and arguments to rule the headlines.

JD Davis was the culprit of these excuses on Sunday, listing a number of questionable reasons for the Mets' sweep at the hands of the Braves, then trying to couch them by claiming he wasn't making an excuse. Sure, sure.

These excuses are weak, and the Mets need to be careful to not fall back into a pattern similar to the first half of the season. The team is playing well, and the playoffs are a reality if they keep things from falling apart.

For starters, one of the excuses used by Davis included a game not even against the Braves. A rain delay against the Indians should not impact any game past the first of the series with the Braves. It's understandable if the team comes out lethargic against the Braves the next day, but for the rest of the series, it's not a reasonable excuse.

The worst part of this is how he finishes the quote with, "No excuses, but..." I mean, that's like starting a sentence with, "No offense, but.." and then immediately saying something offensive. Just because you make a claim about your intentions doesn't mean your words reflect that.

The Mets need to stop making headlines off the field and start making them on the field again.
