The Dallas Cowboys have a lot to be excited about heading into the 2019 season. The defending NFC East champs will have wideout Amari Cooper for an entire season this time around, and their defense is -- for lack of a better term -- stacked.

The fans aren't the only ones excited, either, as the coaches are starting to chime in on their excitement for the season as well. Defensive backs coach Kris Richard is certainly among the most enthusiastic.

The Cowboys are already set at defensive back, as all four of their starters in the secondary from last season are returning this year. But with Pro Bowl corner Byron Jones and nickel back Anthony Brown entering their final seasons under their rookie deals, it was imperative that the Cowboys brought in a few young d-backs to add depth to the group.

Dallas ended up drafting Mike Jackson in the fifth round of this year's draft and signing rookie Chris Westry after the draft.

"It's always valuable, you can never have too much," said Richard, regarding the additional cornerback depth. "It's a tough man sport. But even tough men get sprains and strains from time to time."

These two rookies fit the mold that Richard loves in his corners. They're both tall and have a great wingspan. Jackson is 6-1 with 32.5-inch arms, and Westry is 6-4 with 33-inch arms.

It's doubtful that either of these two get a substantial amount of playing time this season, unless there is an abundance of injuries to their secondary. But like Richard said, you can never have too much depth, and these two will certainly add some of that in spades to the Cowboys' young secondary.
