The Green Bay Packers left jaws on the floor when they traded up in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft to select Utah State quarterback Jordan Love despite the presence of Aaron Rodgers, but the Philadelphia Eagles deserve a spot of similar scorn. They left us scratching our heads when they used a second-round pick on Oklahoma quarterback Jalen Hurts, despite having Carson Wentz locked down at a high price for years.

Howie Roseman has been trying to do spin control for the last two days, as he claims that Doug Pederson will use Hurts' athleticism in a similar way to how Sean Payton uses Taysom Hill with the New Orleans Saints. This quote just about sums up his thinking.

For the love of all that is good and holy, can we stop trying to make every quarterback with a sub 4.8 40 a "Taysom Hill" clone? Do you even know if the Hill role will even be in the league in a few years?

Roseman should have justified the selection of Hurts, a guy who has repeatedly and unequivocally professed that he is a quarterback above all else, as a guy who can give the Eagles peace of mind should Wentz get injured again, and a guy who can make plays when called upon in such an instance. Trying to shoehorn him into an offense that has no use for a second quarterback is madness.

In Hurts, the Eagles are getting an excellent quarterback and a player that any coach would kill to have in their locker room. Unfortunately, Hurts might not get much of an opportunity to help the Eagles win right now, and that is what most fans are peeved about.
