Lack of Veteran Talent Behind Carson Wentz on QB Depth Chart Should Worry Eagles Fans

The Philadelphia Eagles are led by one of the best quarterbacks in the game in Carson Wentz, but their franchise quarterback's health is becoming more of a concern as the years go by and the injuries pile up. If his body once again fails him in 2020, the Eagles don't have much in the way of protection at that position.

Behind Wentz on the depth chart, the Eagles are left with career backup Nate Sudfeld and former Giants fourth-round pick Kyle Lauletta, who struggled mightily in his brief NFL career.

Sudfeld has played decently in the limited exposure on the field he has received, but no Eagles fans worth their salt would feel even reasonably confident that Sudfeld could lead this team to wins should Wentz go down.

Wentz's injury in 2017 might have opened the door for Nick Foles to take them to Super Bowl LII, but his 2018 ailment also helped knock them out of the playoffs after Foles wilted against the New Orleans Saints. Josh McCown was forced to lead the Eagles after Wentz sustained a concussion in a playoff game against the Seattle Seahawks this past year.

Look for Howie Roseman to potentially draft a quarterback this year to stand in as Wentz's deputy should the need arise.

Plain and simple, Wentz needs to stay healthy. If he once again fails to adhere to that goal, however, Philly needs a better backup than Sudfeld. While it's preferable they bring aboard a veteran, there aren't many options out there at the moment outside of Jameis Winston and Joe Flacco.
