After firing longtime pitching coach Larry Rothschild, who held the position since 2011, the New York Yankees are looking for new blood in the dugout to go along with manager Aaron Boone.

In an effort to keep the franchise's spirit alive while injecting new blood, it appears they've listened to the overwhelming fan majority here. Per reports, they interviewed former Yankee pitcher and current broadcaster David Cone for the open position last week, according to Jack Curry of YES Network.

Cone met with Boone, general manager Brian Cashman and other members of the baseball operations department, which is a good sign for his prospects. However, nothing is set in stone at this point.

At the very least, the Yankees interviewed a very smart person who knows a lot about pitching (and who would be sorely missed if he left the booth). That can only help them moving forward.

Unless the Yankees want someone with experience as a pitching coach (say, former Pittsburgh Pirates pitching coach Ray Searage), there isn't anyone out there who would come with more pedigree (or early backing) than Cone.
