Cowboys Still Really Need to Figure Out Dak Prescott, Ezekiel Elliott and Amari Cooper Contracts

This coming season is crucial for the Cowboys not only in the present, but for the future of the franchise.

The top three weapons Dallas has to offer are either free agents next season or seeking new deals, and the Cowboys don't have much leverage to bring to the negotiations.

Dak Prescott is in the final season of his current deal and is seeking a new contract worth up to $34 million per year. Amari Cooper is also in the last year of his rookie deal and will command top dollar for his performance after being traded to Dallas midseason last year.

Ezekiel Elliott is the interesting case, as the running back still has two years left on his deal, but conflicting reports suggest he could holdout until a new contract is signed. No one can argue the fact Elliott has performed like a top five running back since entering the league, but off-the-field concerns could have the Cowboys hesitant in offering a lucrative extension.

Regardless, Dallas needs to make a decision on the future of these three players. The team won the NFC East last year with this trio, and re-signing them all could go a long way towards continued success on the offensive side of the ball.

Even with the potential, there's still the problem of price. All three will command salaries near the top of their relative positions, and that will strap Dallas for cash going forward.

It'll be interesting to see how Jerry Jones and Co. address this situation as the season inches closer.
