Heading into his sixth year with the Dallas Cowboys, offensive guard Zack Martin was experiencing some back pain during the first week of training camp. After missing practice on Friday, Martin was set to have an MRI to see where the pain was coming from.

After the MRI, all that was released was that Martin managed to avoid any serious damage. Although he's likely to miss a few days of camp, the Cowboys are hoping to have him in the lineup once the 2019 NFL season officially kicks off.

During the majority of last season, the 28 year-old lineman battled a knee injury that constantly had him listed as "questionable" heading into games. It's a sigh of relief for Martin and the Cowboys that he was able to avoid a serious back injury heading into this season.

Despite the ailment not being serious, the Cowboys should allow him the time he needs to fully recover. With the start of the regular season still over a month away, there's no reason to rush Martin back in and potentially risk him worsening these back issues.

Martin's been a crucial component of the Cowboys O-line, starting nearly ever game over the past five seasons. As one of the most dominating players at his position, the Cowboys desperately need him to stay healthy this year.

Thankfully, this back injury seems to be a minor one. However, the Cowboys would be smart to give him some extra, perhaps unneeded, recovery time just to play things safe with the season's start so close.
