Cowboys Exploring Chidobe Awuzie Position Change Instead of Addressing Safety Need Directly is a Terrible Decision

One of the biggest needs for the Dallas Cowboys this offseason was at the safety position. They have Xavier Woods and Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, but what they don't have is depth. Many hoped they would make a big free agency pickup, or even better, draft a guy like Xavier McKinney, who they were projected to take in a number of mocks. They didn't do that.

Now, after months of waiting for the Cowboys to solve their safety problem, they may have their answer, but it's not a good one.

They're considering moving cornerback Chidobe Awuzie to safety. Awuzie has been making strides as a corner ever since being draft, and now the team is going to screw that up?

But this doesn't solve the depth issue. Shuffling the guys you already have from one position to another technically gets you a new safety, but you lose a productive cornerback. After Dallas lost Byron Jones to free agency, Awuzie was supposed to be the No. 1 corner. He was primed to take over the role, but now he's going to be a backup safety? Why?

Instead they got more cornerbacks and will explore the possibility of a good player sidestepping to a new position.

The Cowboys have a good team with some serious talent, but these kinds of moves are exactly what will hold them back.
