Jerry Jones' Latest Comments Pretty Much Shut Down the Jamal Adams-Cowboys Trade Rumors

The Dallas Cowboys have been linked to New York Jets safety Jamal Adams in trade rumors dating back months. The upcoming 2020 NFL Draft puts Adams' status in focus once again, as teams have a major opportunity to unload players that aren't part of their long-term plans and gain some extra draft capital.
Adams wants a record contract extension, and the Jets are right to avoid such a thing while they rebuild. Cowboys fans surely love the Adams-Jets drama, as it means he could return to his home state of Texas and be a key piece on defense. However, Jerry Jones has thrown a bit of cold water on the rumors by saying he doesn't see himself trading a first-round pick for a veteran.
#Cowboys owner Jerry Jones says it's unlikely the Cowboys would trade a pick for a veteran player at 17. Jamal Adams truthers, we shall see if this remains the case. As I reported Monday, a source informed tells me the safety just wasn’t top of mind right now.

Giving up the No. 17 overall pick for Adams would likely mean the Cowboys were keen to give him the record extension he wants. The only problem? The team may not have much room to maneuver with cap space once Dak Prescott gets his own potentially record-breaking extension in the coming months.
When the NFL’s voluntary virtual off-season program opens this month, Jets’ All-Pro safety Jamal Adams is not expected to participate, per league sources. The Jets have not expressed any official interest in extending Adams thus far in the off-season, per source.

The Jets will begin to lose leverage in the situation if Adams decides to start a holdout. That could help a team like the Cowboys if the Jets would rather get out ahead of the drama. For now, however, Jones seems content holding onto his top pick.
