Bruce Arians Making Excuses for Jameis Winston's Terrible Play is Simply Pathetic

Jameis Winston is who we all thought he was: a bad quarterback. Although Bruce Arians doesn't seem to think so, as the new Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach defended his quarterback after Winston's terrible Week 1 performance.

Winston and the Bucs fell to the San Francisco 49ers, 31-17, with the controversial quarterback throwing a game-sealing pick-six to Richard Sherman late in the fourth quarter.

Arians came to the defense of his quarterback, claiming that running back Peyton Barber was "about three yards too deep" on his route when Sherman sealed the deal.

This is another chapter in a long history of Winston and turnover issues. The former No. 1 overall pick has long battled turnover problems, never throwing fewer than 11 interceptions in a season during his short career.

Arians can make all the excuses he wants, but it's likely Winston's turnover trends continue. He opened the gates of the 2019-20 season with three interceptions for good measure, already vaulting himself to the top of the league in that category.

And there are absolutely no excuses for this one:

Regardless of his erratic play, Winston is still the best quarterback on the roster. Arians will likely ride this season out with Winston, but will have his sights set on the 2020 offseason when the QB is a free agent.
