Auburn Commit Lands 5-Star Ranking in Latest 247Sports Update

Auburn's 2020 recruiting class just got a bit of an upgrade thanks to 247Sports' latest update on one of its recruits.

Outside linebacker Trenton Simpson was upgraded from a 4-star to a 5-star prospect ranking in 247Sports recent update that featured six total 5-star prospect increases.

Simpson is a Mallard Creek product who committed to Auburn in mid-June, helping the Tigers to the 14th best recruiting class nationally for the 2020 season. Auburn ranks sixth in the stacked SEC.

The 6-2 outside linebacker also plays running back on the other side of the ball. He's an athletic freak with long arms and the potential to grow into an edge defender, according to 247Sports' scouting report.

Auburn's strong suit is not typically the defensive side of the ball, with head coach Gus Malzahn focusing on offense, but Simpson could be a key piece towards turning that defense around in the coming seasons.

Regardless, it's good to see a hard-working player be rewarded for his success on the field. Let's hope Simpson can keep it going into his senior season.
