3 Contending Teams Who Should Consider Acquiring Speedy Veteran Billy Hamilton

Billy Hamilton's limited tenure with the Kansas City Royals came to an end on Friday, as the club designated the veteran outfielder for assignment in a flurry of roster moves prior to their weekend series against the Mets.

Everybody knows how limited Hamilton is with a bat in his hands -- batting .211/.275/.269 in 2019-- but there's no doubting that he still offers extreme value in center field as well as on the base path --18 stolen bases in 2019.

With that in mind, let's examine a few contenders who should take a chance on the 28-year-old speedster.

3. Los Angeles Dodgers

If there's anything we know about manager Dave Roberts, it's that he LOVES pinch-running in the postseason. Not to mention that the Dodgers currently rank 25th in the MLB with just 37 stolen bases. Additionally, AJ Pollock doesn't necessarily boast great speed in center field, completing a perfect recipe of reasons for Los Angeles to take a chance on Hamilton.

2. Chicago Cubs

Yes, the Cubbies already have a Hamilton-like player on their roster in Tony Kemp (who has been terrible thus far), but Albert Almora's recent demotion means they could absolutely use another glove, and an elite one at that, in center field. That's to say nothing of Chicago's 34 stolen bases in 2019, a mark that sees them ranked No. 27 in all of baseball.

1. Minnesota Twins

What one thing has been a mainstay for the Twins in 2019? The long ball. What thing hasn't been a mainstay for Minny in 2019? Small ball. Rocco Baldelli's club ranks dead last in the majors in stolen bases with just 25. If that isn't a cry for Hamilton's help, then nothing is. Further, just picture how lockdown an outfield featuring Billy and Byron Buxton would be. Make the move and thank us later.
