The New York Yankees have suffered a significant blow to their outfield depth with the playoffs right around the corner.

Breakout outfielder Mike Tauchman is expected to miss six to eight weeks with a calf injury he suffered against the Boston Red Sox Sunday night.

Tauchman left the game and the team later learned he suffered a Grade 2 calf strain attempting to field a ball that was hit his way.

It's rough news for the Yankees, who have dealt with injury issues all year. Tauchman had become a staple of New York's lineup this season. In 87 games he was hitting .277 with a .865 OPS.

At best, the Yankees could get Tauchman back right around the start of the World Series in late October. At worst, he misses the entirety of the postseason for a New York team that's gunning for its 28th championship.

Cameron Maybin is in left field Monday night against the Red Sox for the series finale.
