3 Dumbest Eagles Mistakes From 2020 NFL Draft

The Philadelphia Eagles entered the 2020 NFL Draft with wide receiver as a glaring need. That was addressed in the first round, but the shock of the draft came one round later. The team has made more than a few moves that stand out as mistakes and three in particular may have Eagles fans scratching their heads or screaming at their televisions.

3. Drafting Jalen Reagor over Justin Jefferson

Three receivers were off the board when the Eagles came on the clock at No. 21 overall. Yet LSU's Justin Jefferson was there for the taking and the team opted to go with TCU's Jalen Reagor instead. Reagor only had 611 yards in 2019 compared to Jefferson's total of 1,540. The latter obviously played with a better quarterback, but he also stands two inches taller and had better production overall. Jefferson went to Minnesota one pick later and the Eagles now have to hope Reagor turns out to be the better player. If not, this is a major blunder.

2. Trading With Dallas

Helping a division rival get better is not the best strategy. The Eagles seemed to do just that when the team made a trade with the Dallas Cowboys. Dallas got the No. 146 overall pick in exchange for No. 164 overall and a 2021 fifth-rounder. The Cowboys took center Tyler Biadasz with the pick, a player they coveted enough to trade up for. Why would the Eagles help the Cowboys in exchange for a future fifth-round pick? This would be understandable if it were not with another NFC East team. The Eagles did their rival a favor for barely anything in return.

1. Drafting Jalen Hurts

The Eagles drafting Jalen Hurts in the second round was an absolute shock. He was the team's second pick after Reagor and his draft slot means he is expected to be more than just a career backup to Carson Wentz. All this pick does is create a future quarterback controversy anytime Wentz struggles. The former No. 2 overall pick is on a massive $128 million contract through 2024 and is the franchise quarterback. Using such a high pick on Hurts ignored actual needs on the roster and doesn't make sense if Wentz is cemented as the team's starter.
