Warriors Will Destroy Their Reputation With Future Signings if They Don't Max Out Durant and Klay

It's no secret that Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson are expected to miss extended time with serious injuries. The question is, will the Golden State Warriors re-sign them in free agency?

For the sake of the organization, they better.

Although re-signing both All-Stars to max contracts does sound questionable, the Dubs could take a fatal blow to their image if they choose to spurn KD and Klay after the years of success the two have brought to the franchise.

Remember what happened with Isaiah Thomas and the Boston Celtics after he suffered his hip injury in 2017? They traded a player who had openly stated his desire to remain in Boston, and that decision ultimately opened up to organization to criticism regarding their loyalty to the players that wear their colors.

This is not the kind of criticism you want your team enduring on social media. The same thing could happen to the Warriors if they show the NBA universe that they care more about saving money than respecting the players who put their bodies on the line for them.

However, there may be no need for this debate as Golden State is expected to court both Durant and Thompson when the free agency period begins on June 30.

Even teammate Andre Iguodala thinks both players will be back in the Bay Area next season.

If the two opt to sign elsewhere, that's a different story. But the Warriors better show they're willing to pony up or else they may no longer be a premier free-agent destination.
