The Golden State Warriors went from being one of the best dynasties in NBA history to having a shot to earn the No. 1 overall pick for the 2020 Draft. Winning three titles in five years has changed the culture in the Bay Area and the team is now looking for a way to become a championship contender once again.

Landing Kevin Durant in the summer of 2016 made the Warriors unstoppable when healthy. That was a gift that may not be possible again. Yet, one player linked to the team is Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo. While he may not freely sign with the Warriors, due to getting more money in Milwaukee, a sign-and-trade involving Klay Thompson is a possibility.

Making a trade for the Greek Freak is an absolute no-brainer for Golden State. He is a perennial MVP candidate and is five years younger than Thompson. Being teamed up with Steph Curry would almost be unfair for opposing teams.

Antetokounmpo would have to make it clear he wants out of Milwaukee for such a move to happen. The sign-and-trade allows his old team to get something in return and if no other players are sent, a minimum of two first-round picks would likely have to be included as well. That is some much-needed insurance considering Thompson has not played since tearing his ACL in the 2019 NBA Finals and is on a five-year, $190 million contract with a 15% trade kicker.

The Bucks should not be actively trying to move on from their great young superstar. However, if he makes demands to go, getting a future Hall of Famer and two top picks in return is not a bad consolation. The Warriors would trade those draft picks with the expectation that they would be near the end of the first round as winning the Finals would be an annual goal once again.
