VIDEO: Senior VP of Officiating Al Riveron's Explanation for Blown Carson Wentz Call is Infuriating

Let this be a cry for nuance in the NFL rule book. The ability to review, rewind, and rewatch every single millisecond of NFL footage is, unfortunately, useless, if those in the know maintain the complete inability to properly apply their advantages. Even though you can scope out every element of a given play on a rewatch, this STILL hasn't stopped refs from blowing plays dead on the field, removing the ability to review (stop doing that!). It's also led to such blatant mischaracterizations as whatever happened on Carson Wentz's two-point conversion try late in the third Sunday night. Here, let Al Riveron tell it!

Yes, Wentz was clearly "giving himself up," and not "diving towards the end zone in a clear attempt to score, untouched."

Though Wentz's knee hit the turf, he rolled into the end zone unabated, just as he was trying to do. If the league's officials can't tell the difference between surrendering yourself midfield and stretching for the goal line, and if the rule book isn't built to back up that determination, then what are we even doing here?

Of course, if the two-point try had been deemed successful, Philly would've been well within range to kick a game-winning field goal in the final seconds, instead of watching their victory hopes tick away.

It's the little things.
