Veteran LB Paul Worrilow Surprisingly Retires 1 Day After Signing With Ravens
By Jerry Trotta
On Friday, the Baltimore Ravens signed veteran inside linebacker Paul Worrilow in an effort to provide experience to their otherwise young core of LB's. The Ravens top three players at the position -- Chris Board, Kenny Young, and Patrick Onwuasor have combined to start just 29 games.
Well, Baltimore is essentially back to square one as NFL Network's Ian Rapoport has reported that Worrilow has retired less than 24 hours after signing with the organization.
Worrilow was cut by the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday after not appearing in a single game for the franchise in 2018 -- he tore his ACL in June and hadn't appeared in preseason due to a swollen knee.
The 29-year-old started 52 games in his five-year career, playing for the Detroit Lions and Atlanta Falcons. During that span, he recorded 383 tackles, 262 of which were solo, 18 quarterback hits and four sacks.
Here's Ravens head coach John Harbaugh's reaction to Worrilow's stunning decision to call it quits:
Seems like Worrilow's decision caught Harbaugh off guard as well, who was probably stoked to have the linebacker on board. Unfortunately it was a short-lived tenure with the team.
It remains to be seen if Baltimore will re-open their search for a linebacker, but we certainly wouldn't be surprised if they did.
