It's really impossible to say how professional athletes should or shouldn't be spending their time during the coronavirus pandemic that has seen the sports world come to a screeching halt.

However, the efforts of UFC superstar Stipe Miocic deserve commendation of the highest regard. Though he's hopeful that things return to normal in due time, the heavyweight champion isn't at all concerned about training.

Rather, Miocic's primary focus is being a first responder during the ongoing COVID-19 crisis.

If there was ever a time for a standing ovation, well, go right ahead and rise to your feet, ladies and gents.

Miocic, an Ohio native, is a full-time firefighter in Cleveland and plans on spending the immediate future continuing to provide assistance and giving back to the local community.

The 37-year-old last fought in August again Daniel Cormier, when he reclaimed his championship belt in a fourth-round knockout. Cormier has since been clamoring to schedule the trilogy matchup, but Miocic's priorities simply lie elsewhere right now.

You have to think that Cormier respects the paramount concerns of his rival. A rematch has been rumored for the summer, but it could very well get postponed depending on what juncture the talks are at.

In the meantime, Miocic will continue to give back to Cleveland. Kudos to him for recognizing just how important his courageous efforts are during these haunting times.
