While New England Patriots legend Tom Brady has achieved more than any other QB in NFL history, he's also had his fair share of scandals during his playing days, Deflategate being the most notable.

Referred to by ancillary folks as "Tom Terrific," Brady has never seemed to embrace the catchy nickname. But to the surprise of fans, he applied to trademark it just last week...then was immediately lambasted with backlash for swiping the nickname from under the nose of Mets legend Tom Seaver.

Although it was originally reported the trademark attempt was for his own use, he's now claiming he trademarked it because he didn't want others using it. Which would be an interesting side-step if that explanation didn't mean filing a false report with the government.

If this statement from Darren Rovell is true, could Brady find himself in the midst of yet another scandal? It wouldn't be ideal for the defending Super Bowl champs, but it's not clear if he'll actually face any kind of push back for this.

But who knows? Maybe Brady was just saying this to reporters so they didn't think he was full of himself. I mean, trademarking a nickname for yourself that no one uses in real life is a little egocentric isn't it?

We'll have to wait and see if anything comes of this. Brady has been down this road before, so he's no rookie when it comes to these kinds of matters.
