The Boston Red Sox and Detroit Tigers are both sitting around twiddling their thumbs now that the MLB has officially postponed the start of the regular season due to the coronavirus.

Rather than doing nothing, Boston could add an experienced lefty starter in Matthew Boyd via trade, provided Detroit has lowered their absurd asking price, while the Tigers could get their hands on more prospects to help the team rebuild.

The Red Sox have a surprising stockpile of corner infield prospects, chief among them third baseman Bobby Dalbec. Dalbec is close to pro ready at this moment in time, and his power, discipline, and impressive defense make him one of the jewels of the Boston farm system. From Boston's perspective, he is a very enticing prospect, but he is by no means untouchable.

Toss in middle infielder CJ Chatham, who has hit .305 over the last two years in the minor leagues, and Boston could have their hands on a solid lefty starter that could help make their rotation respectable once again. Should Detroit want a younger option, given Chatham is 25, Boston can throw in 17-year-old Brainer Bonaci instead.

Al Avila has to pull the trigger on a Boyd deal eventually. If not, he's wasting an asset the Tigers could easily flip.
