4 Teams That Blew it by Not Signing Chiefs WR Demarcus Robinson in Free Agency

Wide receiver Demarcus Robinson was there for the taking in free agency before the Kansas City Chiefs brought him back on a one-year deal Saturday. But all that tells us is there are many teams out there that failed to add a reliable threat to their receiving game, especially when they were in need of doing so.

The following franchises blew a great opportunity to add a dynamic receiver and infuse some of the Chiefs' success into their respective offenses.

4. Green Bay Packers

Davante Adams is the number one target in Green Bay. After that the options are thin for Aaron Rodgers. New addition Devin Funchess provides more depth, but Robinson would have given the offense a young deep threat who would've posed a challenge for defenses alongside the other two. As it stands now, Allen Lazard and Marquez Valdes-Scantling are the top guys behind Adams and Funchess. Robinson's 449 yards last year on only 55 targets would have put him fifth on the team in receiving. Another catch or two would have put him second. He was the fourth option in a stacked Chiefs offense, but he would have been more of an asset in Green Bay.

3. San Francisco 49ers

The 49ers lost Emmanuel Sanders and added Travis Benjamin this offseason. Deebo Samuel returns as the leading wide receiver, while tight end George Kittle led all pass-catchers with 1,053 receiving yards. The 49ers have young talented players in Richie James and Marquise Goodwin. Yet both failed to reach 200 yards in 2019 and Jimmy Garoppolo could use a receiver with potential like Robinson who knows what it's like to player in a high-powered offense.

2. New Orleans Saints

The New Orleans Saints have Michael Thomas and just added Emmanuel Sanders. One glaring concern is the amount Drew Brees relies upon Thomas. The two connected for 1,725 yards last season. Next was tight end Jared Cook, followed by running back Alvin Kamara. Robinson would have been a perfect fit and could have opened up the field in a scary way alongside Thomas and Sanders. This was a missed opportunity for the Saints considering how cheap Robinson signed for.

1. Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles may be stuck with Alshon Jeffery as their No. 1 receiver after reported failed attempts to trade him this offseason. The position was a disaster for Philly last year as two tight ends and a running back were the leading pass-catchers before a wide receiver showed up on the leaderboard. Jeffery, DeSean Jackson and Nelson Agholor all missed time due to injury. Agholor is now gone, Jeffery seemingly wants out, and Jackson is 33 years old coming off season-ending surgery. Robinson would have given the Eagles a young player with a high ceiling in terms of production, especially in Doug Pederson's creative offense.
