Sports Parody Account Completely Fools Verified Twitter Users With Fake AB-Colin Kaepernick Drama

Verified Twitter users with blue checkmarks were supposed to make Twitter information easier to sift through when determining what was trustworthy and what wasn't. Clearly that system is further behind than we thought.
A popular sports parody account pretended to be NFL insider Ian Rapoport and broke the "news" of Antonio Brown's sudden retirement from the league, tricking a number of verified Twitter users into thinking this information was true.

The account claimed that Brown went to new general manager Mike Mayock and demanded the team sign Colin Kaepernick or he would retire. Since Mayock refused, the parody account claimed Brown promptly retired.
Clearly, none of this information is accurate, but unfortunately for these Twitter users, they were fooled by the fake Rapoport tweet. Given all of Antonio Brown's antics of late, the falsified report was certainly not out of the realm of possibility.
New reports surfaced of Brown's absence from practice because of the helmet issue, and the parody account capitalized on his truancy.

With the drama this situation is accruing, it's easy to see how someone could mistake any wild Brown news for the truth.
As for those who fell victim to the troll, don't worry, you're far from the only ones.
