4 Classic Sports Movie Moments Instant Replay Would've Ruined Forever
By Michael Luciano

Some of the best movies of all time captivate us with scenes of the main character streaking towards the end zone for a touchdown or admiring a towering home run in a clutch situation. Not all of these immortal moments of cinema are totally legal, however, as the replay-crazy 2019 sports world could have easily called for a closer look at these four plays, which could lead to the ruling on the field being reversed.
4. Forrest Gump Stepped Out of Bounds
did Forrest Gump step out of bounds?

oh dear. pic.twitter.com/kM5ba7p4ua
Gump was in the middle of another dominant performance for the Alabama Crimson Tide, but the most famous touchdown of his All-American season as a senior might need to be reviewed. This photo certainly provides evidence that Gump's left foot might've stepped out of bounds on his way to the end zone. With the ref right there, this is an inexcusable miss.
3. Bobby Boucher's Touchdown

It appears that the awful refs from the Fail Mary game got their start in the college ranks. Adam Sandler's Bobby Boucher was ruled to have scored a touchdown that eventually knocked Iowa out of the Bourbon Bowl, but both knees were clearly down before Boucher even gets the ball across the pylon. In 2019, that scoring play is getting overturned via review. This game was hard to sit through for Iowa fans, not unlike the movie it came from.
2. Ray Mitchell Misses Home Plate

Angels third baseman Ray Mitchell helped tie the score up against the Chicago White Sox at 2-2 in the sixth inning, as he slammed a two-run home run to give Tony Danza's Mel Clark a little breathing room. However, that celebration could have easily been undone if the umpires were paying attention and saw that Mitchell didn't step on home plate after his home run, which would have ruled him out after leaving the base paths. The White Sox made an appeal, but MLB's instant replay in 2019 would have snuffed that out and ended the Angels' rally.
1. Rudy Was Offsides
And we all know Rudy was offsides. Sack shouldn’t have counted. Play should’ve been blown dead. pic.twitter.com/RB37wu5EoS

This is inarguable. No other arguments to the contrary will be listened to. He lined up over the line of scrimmage. Yes, it's a great sentimental story, but instant replay cares not for your feelings or storybook endings. If Georgia Tech would have just thrown the challenge flag, the Yellow Jackets would have gotten another shot at this play and nullified Rudy's amazing story of perseverance.
