Adam Schefter dropped a bomb on the NFL playoff picture on Friday morning when he reported that the New Orleans Saints hosted a workout which featured controversial free agent wideout Antonio Brown.

Head coach Sean Payton later simmered the buzz by stating that the Saints were merely doing their due diligence on FA pass catchers with the postseason right around the corner.

At the time, that seemed like a disingenuous assessment from Payton, and an update on things confirms that notion. NFL insider Ian Rapoport recently disclosed that the Saints plan to keep in contact with Mr. Big Chest after he impressed at today's workout.

Rapoport continued to note that Brown isn't currently on the league's Commissioner's Exempt List, which comes down to the fact that he isn't presently rostered.

Should the Saints shock the world and sign the seven-time Pro Bowler, the NFL technically "reserves the right" to place him on the exempt list.

Given that Brown is still under investigation for sexual assault and rape allegations filed by former trainer Britney Taylor, we'd be stunned if the league didn't flex their muscles and deprive him of a potential Super Bowl run with New Orleans.

This, of course, is all hypothetical, but it's quite clear that the Saints have plenty to sort out if they continue to consider bringing the embattled wideout aboard for a playoff run.
