3 Contract Extensions the Saints Need to Prioritize Now

Few teams in the NFL can rival the New Orleans Saints when it comes to unearthing potential superstars, and there is no one even close to Saints GM Mickey Loomis when it comes to fiddling with the salary cap to keep all of these players signed long-term. Even though the long-term outlook of the franchise is a bit questionable given the uncertainty surrounding Drew Brees, the Saints still have three superstars that need new deals, and Loomis need to get busy signing these studs.

3. RB Alvin Kamara

Kamara's deal could be hard to peg, as he is essentially the Saints starting running back and No. 2 wide receiver given how he has exactly 81 catches in each of the last three seasons. Players like Darren Sproles and Reggie Bush have filled the "pass catching running back" role in Payton's offense, but no one was able to wear both the running back and wide receiver hats like the three-time Pro Bowler Kamara. Letting him go would make the offense magnitudes worse immediately.

2. CB Marshon Lattimore

The Saints had some of the NFL's most prolific offenses ever in the early part of the decade, but subpar defenses led to them going 7-9 every year. Because of this, Loomis has to understand that he can't allow foundational pieces on defense to test the open market. Lattimore is not only a two-time Pro Bowler that has consistently graded as one of the best cover corners in the league, but he's clearly the straw that stirs the drink in Dennis Allen's defense. Letting him walk would be a crime against football.

1. OT Ryan Ramczyk

It's harder to find quality offensive lineman than it is to find stars at any other position, and the former first-round pick out of Wisconsin might be the best individual player on a line that sent four players to the Pro Bowl last year. Ramczyk has missed just one game, and his durability combined with tremendous raw power and cat-like balance helped him earn a First-Team All-Pro selection. With the immobile Brees and an average athlete in Winston as their quarterbacks, keeping Ramczyk healthy and happy should be of the utmost importance for New Orleans.
