Pat Shurmur had a forgettable two years as head coach of the New York Giants and was fired as that organization seeks new leadership.

The Washington Redskins entered the offseason needing a new coach and decided upon Ron Rivera, with Jack Del Rio as the defensive coordinator. A recent report from Grant Paulsen of 106.7 The Fan in D.C. names Shurmur as the potential offensive coordinator on that staff.

Shurmur has had some success in that role both with the Philadelphia Eagles and the Minnesota Vikings. His head coaching stints in Cleveland and New York have been total disasters, but he must have earned a solid enough reputation as a coordinator to be considered for so many jobs.

He is not the only candidate, according to Paulsen.

Shurmur would have a chance to stay in the NFC East and perhaps make Dwayne Haskins into a great quarterback. He would not be a blockbuster hire, but one that has experience running solid offenses when his sole focus is that unit. Just don't rely on him for clock management or firing up a locker room.
