It's been almost two years since Washington Redskins quarterback Alex Smith suffered a spiral and compound fracture of the right tibia and fibula after being sacked in a game against the Houston Texans. The injury proved to be one of the most significant recent NFL history. At one point, doctors became so apprehensive in their ability to repair the damage that Smith once claimed that he was lucky to be alive. E60 has just released the trailer for their new documentary, "Project 11," which centers on the 35-year-old's prolonged recovery, and it's the epitome of eye-opening. Full disclosure: the images of Smith's right leg are extremely gruesome, so proceed with caution.

We have no words.

As we know, Smith's injury became infected and he's since been forced to undergo 17 surgeries. This E60 special will shed some light onto his strenuous recovery and the obstacles he's had to overcome over the last 18 months.

We're likely all in need of a pick-me-up after viewing that trailer, so enjoy this tweet, which shows the strides Smith has made during rehab.

The three-time Pro Bowler's courage is literally second to none and it's fair to say that everybody is in his corner as he continues his NFL comeback efforts.
