The Washington Redskins suffered a franchise-changing move when quarterback Alex Smith suffered a broken leg against the Houston Texans in 2018. Smith hasn't played a down of NFL football since, as the severity of the break was so severe that at least 18 months of rehab is required.

A picture of Smith's leg four days after the surgery has finally resurfaced.

WARNING: The following picture is extremely graphic, as is shows just how mangled Smith's lower leg was.

Smith is still on the books for the Redskins, although Dwayne Haskins is expected to be the future of the franchise in Washington.

The Redskins have been very thorough in detailing Smith's road to recovery. He is officially out of his large metal cast that was required to stabilize the leg post-injury, and his mobility is gradually starting to improve with each passing week.

Even though the chances are slim, Smith is still trying his best to once again make it back to the NFL. He's beaten the odds before, so betting against him would not be a wise move.
