Newly-acquired Red Sox prospect Jeter Downs will forever be connected to his team's biggest rivals, the New York Yankees. That's due to the fact that he was named after Yankees legend and first ballot Hall of Famer Derek Jeter. Well, from the looks of his Twitter activity, Downs seems to be a huge fan of the reigning AL East champs.

In the weeks leading up to his trade to the Red Sox, Downs was seen liking pro-Yankee tweets, including those from New York's star players.

That's probably not what Red Sox fans want to see from the youngster coming into Boston. Especially considering he's headed to Boston as part of an unpopular deal that saw the team trade away two fan-favorites in Mookie Betts and David Price.

Downs might want to be a bit less open about his admiration for the Yankees in the future, especially when he gets his eventual big-league call up and starts facing the team multiple times per year.

It's easy to understand why Downs is a supporter of the Yankees -- being named after a franchise icon will certainly help that -- but now a member of a rival organization, he will have to do his best to suppress his fandom.
