The Boston Red Sox made it difficult, but finally traded both Mookie Betts and David Price to the Los Angeles Dodgers over the weekend.

Trading Price and his massive salary is a move that is not too controversial with fans. Yet shipping off Betts instead of giving him a mega-deal is something that has fans a bit upset. The team decided to keep it short and to the point in a statement addressing the departure of both players.

The Price part of the statement is hard to argue with. His contract became a bit of an albatross, though he was a helpful part in the 2018 World Series run.

The bit about Betts is what could cause some to feel anger at the whole situation. Flat-out wishing Betts could have stayed in a Red Sox uniform for his entire career implies that the star outfielder did not want to return, which we simply don't know. Saying it is difficult for fans also ignores the fact ownership made the decision to move on.

The Red Sox are still spending a fortune on players. But fans will each have their own reactions to this cookie-cutter statement from ownership.
