It's been a long process, but the day has finally come: Boston Red Sox legend David Ortiz has been released from the hospital after being shot down in the Dominican Republic back in June, per multiple sources.

It was a little touch and go for a moment for Ortiz, but he was transferred to a hospital in Boston after the initial attack, underwent another surgery, and was later transferred to the ICU unit, from which he was removed in late June.

Marly Rivera of ESPN reported that Ortiz was released from the hospital on Friday and will continue his rehabilitation from home. You can bet he'll be under strict watch from his doctors and nurses, but this is encouraging news regarding one of the greatest designated hitters of all time.

I'm sure fans can't wait to see him up and throwing out the first pitch at Fenway Park (which you know they'll do), but this is just another positive step in the right direction for Ortiz fully healing from this crazy incident down in his home country.
