The One Contract Holding Back the Baltimore Ravens

The Ravens surprised all of us last season on their way to a 14-2 record and a AFC North division title, but they did fall short of their ultimate goal. As the team looks to add final pieces to get back to the Super Bowl, there's one contract that may get in the way.

Last offseason, Baltimore re-signed tight end Nick Boyle to a three-year deal worth $18 million. This seemed like a solid move to solidify the team's tight end room. A year later, Boyle doesn't seem like he should be the 12th highest paid tight end.

After only catching 31 balls for only 321 yards, Boyle was leapfrogged by Mark Andrews on the depth chart, as he had a breakout season. Andrews hauled in 10 touchdowns and posted 64 receptions.

With less than $10 million in cap remaining for the Ravens, every penny counts. Even though a $6 million cap hit may not seem like a big deal, for a backup, that can be a big hindrance to a team that may need to make one last splash.

If the Ravens can find a trade partner to take Doyle's contract, it'd be a major blessing for John Harbaugh and Co.
