The New England Patriots remain in wait and see mode regarding what Tom Brady will decide in free agency. In the meantime, the team just lost a key piece on defense.

Linebacker Kyle Van Noy has reportedly signed a four-year deal with the Miami Dolphins. That is a huge loss for the Patriots and another sign that the Dolphins are not messing around in 2020.

The Patriots have to be a bit worried now. Van Noy started 15 games for the team in 2019 and recorded 56 total tackles and 6.5 sacks. He emerged as a defensive leader in New England after being traded there from Detroit in 2017 for next to nothing.

New England does have a habit of letting high-priced players walk just before they fall off a cliff, but if anyone would know about Van Noy's production, it's former Pats DC Brian Flores, who now coaches Miami.

Not only is Van Noy gone, but he is joining a Dolphins team that also added Byron Jones Monday. Losing Brady to another team could mean the Patriots actually have competition in the AFC East this year. Bill Belichick may have to get more aggressive in hopes of revamping this Patriots team heading into the 2020 season.
