A key member of the Patriots' secondary may be in some deep trouble with the law.

New England defensive back Patrick Chung has been indicted on cocaine possession charges. The tenured veteran's arraignment is scheduled for next week.

The news comes following a crackdown on drug-related charges in New Hampshire. According to the indictment, Chung "did possess or have under his control a quantity of the controlled substance cocaine."

Though an indictment isn't an implication of guilt, this is still an absolutely terrible look for both Chung and the Patriots organization. It also seems extremely likely that he'll face a suspension from the league for the charges, regardless of whether or not he's guilty.

The incident is said to have occurred on June 25, and Chung's indictment was presented earlier this month on Aug. 8.

Adding to the issues surrounding the situation is the fact that Chung signed a three-year contract extension worth $11.7 million earlier in the offseason. He's been a vital part of New England's defense ever since he was drafted 34th overall back in 2009.

The Patriots already have a certain amount of pressure on them to keep clean with the recently reinstated Josh Gordon back on the team. This news on Chung will be problematic to say the least and will be important to keep an eye on as information comes out.
