As each minute passes, it truly feels more and more clear Cam Newton's brilliant era with Carolina will come to an end before the start of the 2020 campaign.

After missing virtually all of the 2019 season, coupled with a new regime taking over the franchise, the door opened for the Panthers to look to a future without their superstar signal caller. This week, GM Marty Hurney didn't do anything to quiet down the speculation Newton will be gone.

Hurney refused to answer any follow-up questions about Newton after weighing in on his progress in rehab.

Newton played in two games for Carolina this past season before a Lisfranc injury landed him on IR. Last offseason, he underwent shoulder surgery. The injuries have certainly piled up, preventing him from being his usual stellar self.

Should the Panthers decide to part ways with Newton in the last year of his contract, they'd open up $19.1 million in cap space.

All signs are pointing to the Panthers going through a rebuild under new head coach Matt Rhule. It goes without saying, but that rebuild sure doesn't look like it will include Mr. Newton.
