3 Packers Players Whose Jobs Could Be on the Line Following the 2020 Draft

Now that the bombshell wave of free agency is behind us, the Green Bay Packers likely have a good idea of how they plan to approach this month's NFL Draft, which will proceed as planned amid the coronavirus crisis.

Green Bay hasn't made any big splashes, but general manager Brian Gutekunst has filled some holes with the additions of linebacker Christian Kirksey, offensive tackle Rick Wagner, and wide receiver Devin Funchess.

With all of this in mind, let's highlight a few Packers veterans who will be fighting for their jobs following the draft, in which Green Bay holds 10 selections.

3. Lane Taylor

The aforementioned Wagner was a nice addition, but Green Bay would be foolish not to draft an offensive lineman in what is considered to be a loaded class for the position, particularly at OT. After landing on injured reserve in 2019, Taylor has now missed almost two full seasons with injuries. Therefore, the 30-year-old vet should be on a short leash in 2020, especially if a drafted rookie impresses early on.

2. Oren Burks

After letting Blake Martinez to walk in free agency, the Packers have a massive hole at middle linebacker. Though we like the Kirksey signing, he's a genuine unknown after missing most of the last two seasons (23 games) with injuries. The same can be said for Burks, who has proven to be injury prone across his first two seasons as a pro. The door is open for either player to stake their claim as the starter, but don't be surprised if a rookie LB -- perhaps one drafted with the No. 30 overall pick -- makes things interesting, especially for Burks.

1. Dean Lowry

The superhuman efforts of Za'Darius and Preston Smith overshadowed what was truly an average defensive line in Green Bay. Lowry started 16 games last season, and despite playing over 60% of the defensive snaps, he failed to record a sack and logged just two QB hits. If the Packers draft another defensive lineman to pair with budding youngster Rashan Gary, Lowry's status for 2021 and beyond could be in jeopardy, especially since the Pack can save money parting ways with him after 2020.
