Ohio Food Pantry Has Received Significant Donations After Joe Burrow's Heisman Speech

Joe Burrow won the 2019 Heisman Trophy in a landslide victory, but he wasn't the only one to benefit. Burrow's victory speech featured some talk about the struggles faced by many in Southeast Ohio, and it's already paying dividends.
Burrow is from Athens County, OH, and it seems more than a few people were spurred to action by his words about his hometown.

One quick yet meaningful mention of his hometown on a national stage was enough for $250,000 to flood into the area in the form of donations to a food bank. Burrow didn't start the trend with some giant donation, but heartfelt words instead.
"I'm up here for all those kids in Athens and in Athens County that go home to not a lot of food on the table," said LSU quarterback Joe Burrow as he accepted the Heisman Trophy.

Burrow has turned himself into a folk hero both in Southeast Ohio and the entire state of Louisiana. He has remained loyal to the area in which he spent his teenage years and could even end up playing a few hours away professionally in Cincinnati.
Even if he plays elsewhere, Burrow's impact on the community has been felt this holiday season thanks to his kind words and the thoughtful donations from so many.
