With the leagues CBA set to expire at the end of the 2020 season, the NFL and the NFLPA are expected to ramp up meetings over the summer to try and get a deal done before the start of the next season.

In an effort to avoid a future lockout, the NFL and NFLPA have met once a month for the past three months, with the frequency of those meetings expected to increase now that summer is upon us.

Avoiding a work stoppage would be huge for the NFL economically, as the league would be able to maintain its growth without losing any potential interest drop-off that would result from no NFL football.

According to Dan Graziano, there could be up to four meetings in July alone, making this month pivotal to negotiations. If the league and the players are able to come closer to terms before the 2019 season starts, then the occurrence of continuous play without a work stoppage will become closer to being a reality.

Negotiations are expected to focus on changed to the drug policy (such as marijuana usage) and potential rule changes to go along with the usual haggling over league revenue. For the fans' sake, let's hope a deal is reached soon.
