In the NFL, everything has to be earned-- even backup jobs. In that regard, it looks things could break right for Eagles quarterback Nate Sudfeld this summer, who has had to bide his time behind a franchise guy in Carson Wentz and a Super Bowl champ in Nick Foles. Now, he's relishing the opportunity to take a big step forward.

With Foles departing for Jacksonville to become the Jaguars' full-time starting quarterback, the backup job in Philly behind Wentz is up for grabs. Those are big shoes to fill given what Foles did in his time with Philly, but it seems as if the team is ready to embrace Sudfeld in the role regardless.

The sixth-round pick in 2016 out of Washington was offered a second-round tender in the offseason, illustrating the value Doug Pederson and Co. believe he can provide for the team.

The Eagles interestingly did not sign a more experienced backup candidate like Tyrod Taylor, who ended up in Los Angeles with the Chargers, or Ryan Fitzpatrick, who ended up in Miami, further suggesting they are giving Sudfeld a more than adequate chance to be the No. 2 guy behind the oft-injured Wentz. Knowing the injury history there, there's every chance Sudfeld could see the field this season.
