MRI on Cam Newton's Foot Comes Back Negative Following Injury Picked up Against Patriots
By Karl Rasmussen

Cam Newton had Panthers fans in a panic after he exited the preseason game against the Patriots with a foot injury.
The star quarterback was later seen exiting Gillette Stadium with a walking boot on his left foot, further spreading the anxiety consuming Panther Nation.
Well, an update on his status has been provided. Ian Rapoport reports that an MRI on Newton's foot came back negative, and his injury is currently being described as a sprain.
More on Cam Newton: X-Rays were negative. It’s characterized as just a sprain right now, I’m told. Tests coming tomorrow. https://t.co/ZsMjGW0QLE

This would be some much-needed good news for the Panthers, as Newton's health is effectively the balance of their season.
A sprain could still sideline him for a while, but it's encouraging to know he didn't suffer a more serious ailment.

Newton picked up the injury after scrambling in the pocket before being brought down by Danny Shelton. His foot was caught up in the wreckage and he limped off to the sideline before being ruled out of the game.
After dealing with shoulder injuries last year, Panthers fans now have an entirely new body part to worry about for Newton. For now they'll await a timetable for his return to action, though you can pretty much rule out a return for next week's preseason finale.
