Considering the magnitude of the black eye that the Houston Astros have imposed on the MLB in the extended fallout of their sign-stealing endeavors, commissioner Rob Manfred could really use a win.

Unfortunately, he was met with an abundance of backlash when word spread of his reported proposed changes to the league's current playoff format.

While most baseball junkies would love nothing more than for this absurd proposition to be revoked, the latest buzz suggests that it has a punchers chance at being instilled before long, according to Bob Costas.

According to the New York Post, the format change is being viewed positively by empowered TV executives and baseball officials, who feel it will help with growing a bigger audience and add a better television experience.

The Post's Andrew Marchand continued to note that the new blueprint could lead to fruitful contracts with the ESPN and TBS deals expiring. The earliest that the MLB will be able to inaugurate this new format would be 2020, which is when the new contracts would start.

The most baffling part of it all is that these TV and baseball higher-ups failed to single out ONE positive this proposal would have on the game of baseball itself. The priority concerns here are ratings and promoting the MLB's brand.

In other words, the sheer outcry of baseball's biggest devotees (and players), at least at this rate, will all be for nothing.
