Michigan Barely Surviving Against Army is an Awful Look for Jim Harbaugh and Shea Patterson

Sometimes it's better to win ugly than not at all. That's what happened on Saturday for the No. 7 Michigan Wolverines, who barely got past Army in a double-overtime victory.

We learned a couple things from this game: Army is better than advertised and this close of a game at home is a terrible look for head coach Jim Harbaugh and quarterback Shea Patterson.

Army is certainly not a cupcake team you can beat by 50, but the Wolverines were a field goal away at the end of regulation from losing this game. That can't happen, especially if you think you're a top-10 team with national championship aspirations.

Even though Harbaugh will take a lot of the heat, Patterson looks far from a Heisman Trophy candidate or potential first-round pick next April. Sure, adapting to Josh Gattis' offense was always going to take some time, but we're two games in and right back where we started.

On top of three fumbles today, Patterson barely eclipsed 200 passing yards and he didn't record a touchdown. You can give Army credit for neutralizing Patterson, but he did not look like the quarterback we've been hearing about for years since his time at Ole Miss.
