Tate Martell Transfers From Wide Receiver Back to Quarterback
By Andy Loughmiller

Shockingly, the guy who transferred to the University of Miami to play quarterback wants to go back to playing...QB. Miami head coach Manny Diaz announced that Tate Martell will no longer be working with the receiver group and will transition back to quarterback.
Martell has caught zero passes this season. He has been a non-factor for the Hurricanes in 2019.
Martell at receiver is done and finished. Longterm, he wants to be QB, Diaz said.

Martell was granted immediate eligibility by the NCAA after transferring to Miami from Ohio State this past offseason. It was a surprise when he wasn't named the starter for their opening game vs. Florida. The former 4-star recruit was electric during his high school career at Bishop Gorman.
The redshirt sophomore will provide more value as a backup and scout quarterback than he did as a backup receiver. It makes you wonder why he initially changed positions in the first place.
This position switch could potentially mean that Martell will get a chance to play quarterback for the Canes before the season is over. However, that seems unlikely when you consider that he is currently listed as the third quarterback on Miami's depth chart.
Dan Enos said there was a package UM had ready for Tate Martell last week against Louisville but the Hurricanes just never got to it.

The Tate Martell wide receiver experiment is over in Miami, and the transfer portal icon will either stick it out in Miami in hopes of winning the starting spot entering 2020 for Manny Diaz, or he'll be forced to find yet another new home.
