Mets Handing Job Over to Joe Girardi Would Be a Major Mistake

It wasn't a huge surprise, but the New York Mets decided to fire manager Mickey Callaway after just two seasons on Thursday. He wasn't hand picked by GM Brodie Van Wagenen, and after missing the playoffs with this team, it seemed to be only a matter of time until the Mets would be in search of another skipper.

So, who will they look at?

The first name that comes to mind is Joe Girardi. He knows what it's like managing in New York and he could take this talented team to another level. However, the Mets shouldn't touch him.

Unless taking some time off and doing TV changed his entire personality, do you think his style matches the Mets culture? Girardi may not be entirely old school, but I don't think he'd embrace the walk-off celebrations where they're tearing their teammates jerseys off.

With Pete Alonso steering this ship, along with young players like Jeff McNeil, J.D. Davis, Ahmed Rosario and Brandon Nimmo, the Mets have a new identity and something they should only enhance with their next hire.

That right there would take Girardi out of contention.

Even though the Mets reside in the same city as the Yankees, you think they should go about their business in the same manner? Maybe they should, but instead of being followers, the Mets should set an example and be their own unique selves. That won't happen with Girardi at the helm. Sure he has experience, but do you really think he'd have what it takes to get this team back on track? Not a chance.
